Ozempic Side Effects Lawsuits

Ozempic Causing Stomach Paralysis, Gastroparesis, Intestinal Problems

Ozempic, a popular diabetes and weight loss drug, is tied to dangerous stomach and intestinal problems. People taking Ozempic have filed lawsuits across the country alleging the drug caused stomach paralysis and other serious side effects.

In 2022 the FDA’s own reporting system (FAERS) warned of a potential risk of intestinal obstruction from Ozempic and Wegovy. The FDA received high numbers of reports from people who experienced stomach issues, intestinal blockages, and blood clots (deep vein thrombosis) after using Ozempic or Wegovy.

What are the Ozempic Lawsuits About?

Lawsuits against NovoNordisk, the maker of Ozempic, claim the company did not warn patients about the possible intestinal and gastric side effects, like gastroparesis, from using Ozempic. The lawsuits also allege that the manufacturers were negligent in the testing and monitoring of the drugs post-approval to ensure safety.

Anyone who took Ozempic and experienced stomach paralysis, blood clots, or other intestinal issues may be eligible to file a claim against the manufacturer for compensation.

How to Qualify for an Ozempic Lawsuit with mctlaw

  1. Proof you used Ozempic. This can be in the form of prescriptions, packaging with the prescription label in your name, or medical records showing that a doctor prescribed you Ozempic.
  2. Medical Treatment. Your medical records must show that you have been treated for gastroparesis, stomach paralysis, intestinal obstruction, gastric stasis, or other medical side effects from taking Ozempic

Ozempic Class Action Lawsuit or Multi-District Litigation

In February 2024 all Ozempic lawsuits were grouped together into one federal court for what is called a Multidistrict Litigation, or MDL. This grouping of cases is similar to a class action lawsuit, but follows a different legal process: every single person with a filed case will have a right to their own individual trial.

People affected by these severe side effects are seeking money for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages related to their health. They are also calling for more stringent regulatory actions and clearer, more comprehensive labeling of the drugs to prevent further cases.

Ozempic Linked to Stomach Paralysis or Gastroparesis

Gastroparesis is a condition that slows or stops the movement of food from the stomach to the small intestine. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and feeling full quickly after starting to eat. Longer term complications from ozempic induced gastroparesis can include malnutrition, severe dehydration, and organ failure. These conditions can be severe and require immediate medical attention.

Ozempic Side Effects

Ozempic and other similar weight loss drugs have been associated with a range of side effects. Here’s a list of the reported side effects from people using semaglutide:

  • Gastrointestinal Issues: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. These symptoms are often most pronounced when beginning treatment and may decrease over time.
  • Gastroparesis: This is a condition where the stomach stops pushing food along and can no longer empty its contents. This can be severe, leading to symptoms like malnutrition and dehydration.

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat type 2 diabetes and, under the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy, is also used for weight loss. More recently, a similar formulation called Mounjaro was also introduced to the market. These drugs work by mimicking a hormone called a GLP-1 agonist that targets areas of the brain involved in regulating insulin production, appetite, and food intake.

When I say “they went to bat” for me…this Law Firm literally did just that. They persevered to bring the hard-nosed Manufacturer to settle and provide me some recompense for everything I had to endure which led to this suit.
