Trulicity Lawsuits: What You Should Know

What is Wrong with Trulicity?

Trulicity is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes, but it can cause serious health problems for some people. Eli Lilly and Company, the maker of Trulicity, is facing many lawsuits. These lawsuits claim that Eli Lilly did not properly warn patients and doctors about the risks of the drug.

Injuries and Serious Side Effects Linked to Trulicity

Trulicity has been linked to several serious side effects, especially affecting the stomach and intestines. Here are the details about these conditions and how Trulicity may cause them.

Stomach Paralysis and Side Effects from Trulicity

  • Gastroparesis: This happens when drugs like Trulicity cause nerve and muscle damage to the stomach muscles, causing them to stop moving food through the gastrointestinal system. Gastroparesis is also known as stomach paralysis. This can cause to chronic nausea and vomiting, which can lead to malnutrition and dehydration.
  • Chronic Nausea and Vomiting: Many people taking Trulicity suffer from extremely severe and chronic nausea and vomiting. These symptoms can make it hard to stay hydrated and eat properly. Trulicity slows down the stomach, causing food to stay there longer, which can lead to long term nausea and vomiting.

Intestinal Blockages and Side Effects from Trulicity

  • Intestinal Obstruction: Some people taking Trulicity have experienced intestinal blockages, which stop food and waste from moving through the intestines. This causes severe pain, bloating, and vomiting. Trulicity’s effect on the intestines’ movement may increase the risk of blockages.
  • Chronic Diarrhea: Trulicity can cause ongoing diarrhea, leading to dehydration and weight loss.

Pancreatic Side Effects from Taking Trulicity

  • Pancreatitis: Trulicity can cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. Symptoms include severe belly pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. Pancreatitis can be very serious and needs immediate medical care. Trulicity increases the risk of pancreatitis by making the pancreas produce more insulin, leading to inflammation.
  • Pancreatic Cancer: There are concerns that Trulicity might be linked to pancreatic cancer. Some people have developed pancreatic cancer after using the drug. This link is still being studied, but it is thought that the constant stimulation of the pancreas by Trulicity might cause cancer.

Is there a Trulicity Class Action Lawsuit

The federal court has set up a single “Multidistrict Litigation,” or MDL, where the court will hear claims regarding Trulicity as well as other similar drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy lawsuits.

An MDL is a process that is similar to a class action, because it combines many similar cases under the supervision of a single judge.  This helps these cases move through the pre-trial phases more efficiently, as thousands of people are seeking the same information from the defendants.

Once that information is gathered for everyone, the cases can then be worked up for individual trials.

Typically, courts pick a few example cases to hold trials over, first.  These are called “bellwether trials.”  The court’s goal is that these few trials can result in a settlement program without having to hold trials for each of the thousands of cases that are filed.

Trulicity Multi-District Litigation MDL Lawsuit Updates

The Trulicity MDL is now in the discovery phase, where both sides share information and evidence. This phase is important because it helps build a strong case.

Eventually, there will be several “bellwether trials.” These initial trials are like test cases and can help set the tone for future lawsuits and may even lead to settlements.

When I say “they went to bat” for me…this Law Firm literally did just that. They persevered to bring the hard-nosed Manufacturer to settle and provide me some recompense for everything I had to endure which led to this suit.
