Depo-Provera lawsuits are finally moving forward. On February 7, 2025, the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation issued a transfer order consolidating the birth control shot lawsuits into federal court in the Northern District of Florida as an MDL.

An MDL, or multidistrict litigation, is created when multiple plaintiffs are filing similar lawsuits, and the cases are consolidated into one court proceeding.

The majority of the plaintiffs requested consolidation in California, where most of the initial lawsuits were filed. The defendants, Pfizer Inc. and Prasco Laboratories, requested that the MDL be consolidated in New York.

The proceedings will take place under U.S. District Judge M. Casey Rodgers. Judge Rodgers has experience presiding over the largest MDL in American history, which involved hundreds of thousands of former service members suing over defective 3M earplugs.

More than 70 plaintiffs taking part in the MDL were all diagnosed with meningioma tumors after using Depo-Provera or its generic, and allege that the manufacturers failed to warn them of the risks.
