What to know: Diamond Shruumz Recall Lawsuits
Dozens of people across the country got seriously ill after eating mushroom microdosing candies. As of October 2024, 180 people across at least 34 states reported sicknesses from ingesting Diamond Shruumz gummies, chocolates, and cones. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 73 people were hospitalized, and three people died.
An FDA investigation found these mushroom-infused edibles were potentially linked to severe side effects, and even death, prompting a recall. The Diamond Shruumz brand is marketed as legal psychedelic products, and items were sold both online and in stores.
What you can do if you got sick from Diamond Shruumz:
- Save the product and the packaging.
- Do not consume any more of the product.
- Do not return the product to the company or destroy the candies or packaging.
- Keep any receipts or statements showing your purchase.
- See a medical doctor and get copies of your medical records.
What ingredients were found in the recalled Diamond Shruumz candies?
Prophet Premium Blends recalled all Diamond Shruumz products in June 2024, citing the presence of the compound “muscimol.” However, both the FDA and independent researchers from the University of Virginia tested the Shruumz candies and found additional unexpected ingredients in the products, including:
- Acetylpsilocin (semi-synthetic psychedelic)
- Psilocin (Schedule 1 psychedelic)
- Pregabalin (prescription anti-convulsant)
- Desmethoxyyangonin, dihydrokavain, and kavain (kava plant compounds)
- Muscimol (psychedelic compound derived from a mushroom)
Prophet Premium Blends advertised their products as “free from psychedelic substances” and scheduled drugs.

Why did muscimol trigger a recall of Diamond Shruumz?
Muscimol is a chemical compound present in the toxic mushroom Amanita muscaria reported to have psychedelic effects when ingested. The FDA has released publications indicating that muscimol is not authorized for inclusion in food products, and that it does not meet the Generally Recognized As Safe standard set by the FDA.
Muscimol is not currently listed as a controlled substance. Muscimol, and other so-called “legal psychedelics” like it, can be found across the country, but the FDA has started to crack down on these potentially dangerous compounds.
