Ileal Obstruction from Ozempic
There is growing concern that medications like Ozempic, Trulicity, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Rybelsus and similar GLP-1 drugs, may increase the risk or cause severe intestinal blockages.
Risk of ileus or intestinal obstruction
The ileum is the last part of the small intestine and connects to the large intestine. Paralytic ileus happens when the ileum becomes blocked, preventing food, liquids, and gas from moving through the digestive tract into the large intestine.
GLP-1 medications may contribute to this by slowing down digestion. When digestion is slowed, food can accumulate in the intestines, which can increase the risk of a blockage.
An ileus or intestinal obstruction is a serious life threatening injury that needs immediate medical attention. Complications from a bowel blockage can include:
- Sepsis
- Bowel tears
- Kidney failure
- Death
FDA Report of reactions to Ozempic, Trulicity, Wegovy, Mounaro and Rybelsus
There have been more than 130,000 adverse reactions reported to the FDA after taking GLP-1 medications, based on data from the the FDA Adverse Events Reporting System (also called FAERS).
Almost 40,000 of those reactions involved gastrointestinal issues, including reports of intestinal obstruction, small intestinal obstruction, paralytic ileus, gastric obstruction, and intestinal perforation.

How Ozempic and Similar Medications Affect Digestion
Ozempic, Trulicity, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Rybelsus work by mimicking the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which slows down food moving from the stomach to the intestines.
This delayed movement of food through the digestive tract can lead to gastroparesis, which can cause a buildup of food in the intestines, increasing the risk of an obstruction.
Symptoms of ileus obstruction or bowel obstruction
According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common symptoms of an ileus or bowel obstruction are:
- Cramping abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite.
- Constipation
- Vomiting
- Inability to have a bowel movement or pass gas
- Swelling of the abdomen

When I say “they went to bat” for me…this Law Firm literally did just that. They persevered to bring the hard-nosed Manufacturer to settle and provide me some recompense for everything I had to endure which led to this suit.
