Worst US Measles Outbreak in Over a Decade
The number of measles cases in the US so far this year makes it one of the worst outbreaks since 1996, according to the CDC. The agency recorded 288 cases of measles in 18 states so far. Most of those cases can be traced to people traveling overseas, catching the virus, and coming back to the United States with the infection. The CDC says “ninety percent of all measles cases in the United States were in people who were not vaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown.”
The most common vaccinations for measles include the MMRV vaccine and the MMR shot. Both vaccinate against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. The MMRV also immunizes against varicella or chickenpox.
If you’ve experienced a severe adverse reaction to any recent vaccine, contact your doctor immediately. Also, get in touch with a vaccine attorney as soon as possible to determine if your situation is eligible to file a claim with the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
